As we prepare for the Collaborate global forum, to be held in September in Oklahoma City, CAFO is seeking to highlight a few success stories of programs that empower local communities toward effective care of vulnerable children and families.

LOCAL EMPOWERMENT:
The process of giving individuals, communities and organizations in a specific geographical area the authority, resources, and skills necessary to make decisions and take actions that affect their lives and well-being of their communities.

We are seeking programs that are effectively empowering local communities in the following areas:

  1. Church Engagement: The local church should be the central focus for community engagement and empowering local Christians to serve vulnerable children and families. Churches can create environments in their communities where everyone can do something, and focus ministry efforts to provide skills, knowledge, opportunities, effective guidance, and oversight.
  2. Cultivating Competency: Churches and organizations can encourage local empowerment by investing in education programs that provide individuals and communities with the skills and knowledge they need to make informed decisions and take action in their communities to care for vulnerable children and families.
  3. Child Protection, Health & Welfare: Churches and organizations can encourage local empowerment by investing in healthcare & welfare programs that empower individuals and communities to take ownership of their health and well-being, and improve child protection and family welfare.
  4. Economic Development: Churches and organizations can encourage local empowerment by investing in economic development programs that provide individuals, families and communities with opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods and improve their economic well-being.
  5. Leadership Development / Capacity Building: Churches and organizations can encourage local empowerment by investing in local leaders and capacity building, so communities are able to turn to to local individuals for guidance and decision-making.

If your network, organization, or church are effectively empowering local communities in one or more of these areas, please allow us to consider it for inclusion by suggesting it below.
