Children and Technology

Technology is everywhere.

Technology has arguably transformed our lives for the better, impacting everything from our washing machines to our cars to the devices we are using to read this. The ability to access life-saving medical equipment and engage in video calls with loved ones from a world away are tremendous gifts. However, we must acknowledge that technology also poses significant risks to our concentration, focus, health, well-being, and more.

Vulnerable children are already at greater risk for problematic technology use.

Nearly all of us have been impacted by the distraction and loss of time that comes with technology use, but some people may be significantly more susceptible to the lure of technological devices. This can include children who have experienced early adversity in their lives. Drawing from a study of hundreds of children separated from their parents, this book addresses why these children seem to be more negatively affected by technology than their peers.

You can help the children you love to engage wisely with technology.

While it is beneficial to understand why children impacted by adversity face increased risks, this understanding alone is insufficient. It is crucial to know how to take actionable steps in response.

How can you effectively support the children you care for in making better choices? What specific guidelines should be established? Where should you allow them freedom? Moreover, how can you assist them in engaging with technology appropriately?
