“Upstream” thinking is essential as we address any crisis. But this metaphor can also be dangerously nearsighted. Ultimately, the best efforts require a “wide vision and narrow focus.” That means taking into account the full watershed … and then giving our primary attention to the small portion where we can make the biggest difference.
