New “Inspired by a Child” Video is…Okay, I’ll say it…Inspiring

After many times through, I still haven’t yet watched the new “Inspired by a Child” video without getting at least a little lump in my throat. It’s simple, but offers poignant glimpses of the stories at the heart of CAFO’s National Foster Care Initiative.

It’s easy for foster care advocates to get caught up in the “big picture” – the daunting numbers and disconcerting trends newspapers love to report.

But when things get good and real, to love children in foster care never is about numbers. It’s about individual souls – their strength and beauty…the hurts and hopes they carry…and the inspiration they give.

Every person I know who holds a long-burning passion for children in foster care can tell you a name, a particular knit-in-the-image-of-God girl or boy who has inspired them along the way.

I think of many who’ve been that for me: Jesse…Chey…Mary…“T”…Mandy…Amnoni…Jimmy. They may not all be children anymore, but they continue to inspire. And many of them are out serving others now, too.

It’s these children – and former children – who remind us why we do what we do…and they inspire us to keep on doing it!

What’s the name of the child who first inspired you?
