More Than Enough, CAFO’s US foster care initiative, has launched the More Than Enough dashboard to share local foster care data across the US and help drive local engagement.
Historically, the most accessible foster care data has been at the national or state level. And those numbers — approximately 330,000 children in foster care and 46,000 children waiting for adoption as of 2025 — are large and overwhelming.
“These numbers often lead us to talk about foster care as an overwhelming national crisis when it is much more helpful to position it as a solvable local problem that communities can come together to address,” said Jason Weber, national director of More Than Enough at CAFO.
For example, Weber shared that in his home county of more than 1 million residents, there are 193 children in foster care and 44 children waiting for adoption.
“When we use such large numbers, foster care can feel paralyzing. When we go local and use these smaller numbers, suddenly the problem feels solvable and communities are more motivated to act,” he added.
Finding local foster care data to solve local problems
The More Than Enough dashboard displays county-level data, where available, to help drive community engagement and ownership. It includes current and historical data published from local sources, alongside a robust and ongoing outreach effort to state social services to access data that has not previously been released.
The dashboard also displays a map that highlights churches, organizations and agencies that are working within a county or state.
Both the data and the map are critical because the dashboard is not just an easy source of statistics — it’s designed to drive strategic, collaborative action, Weber shared.
“Our hope is that the dashboard helps people at the local level find other collaborators, and provides them with key insights as they decide where to focus their work together. Over time, the dashboard will let them track their progress so they know what it will take to reach more than enough for children and families before, during and beyond foster care.”
And because the dashboard is a tool for local communities to use, he said, churches, organizations and advocates will also be able to embed their county’s data on their own websites to share it with their audiences.
“We truly believe that more than enough for children and families in foster care is possible,” Weber said. “As communities see the data where they live, we think they’ll start to believe it, too — and roll up their sleeves to make it a reality, together.”
