Serve a Widow to Bless Orphans

ORGANIZATION: Both Hands

CATEGORY: Adoption

WHAT THE LOCAL HOST DOES:

Orphan Sunday hosts will live out James 1:27 in a practical way through serving a widow in their community to raise funds for orphans. The host independently or with a group of volunteers will find a widow and spend a few hours helping her with simple things like mowing her lawn, cleaning, de-cluttering, etc. The volunteer(s) will use social media to ask people to sponsor them while they work. Donations will go towards a Both Hands’ family adoption grant or to an orphan cause of the host’s choosing. Sponsors will be able to donate online through www.BothHands.org/orphansunday

WHAT THE ORGANIZATION PARTNER DOES:

Both Hands helps families fundraise for their adoptions. A family gathers a team of volunteers and Both Hands coaches them to coordinate a service project fixing up a widow’s home. The family and their team send letters to raise sponsorship for their day of service. The funds raised help an orphan be adopted into a forever family. Both Hands – One for the widow, one for the orphan.

Both Hands raises 100% of it’s administrative costs separately, therefore a host could raise funds for Both Hands through serving a widow so that we can continue our mission.

The fund can maximize stewardship by utilizing innovative funding tools like Adoption Matching Grants & Interest-Free Loans.

1. Highlight orphan care and adoption on Orphan Sunday (sermon, event, or Sunday school class) and video provided by Lifesong for Orphans. www.vimeo.com/lifesongfororphans/adoption-fund

2. Shape how the Adoption Fund might be used, and name the fund, give testimonies from adoptive families in your church (if applicable.)

3. Allocate Orphan Sunday financial offering to be used as “initial seed funding” to launch the Fund, or discuss other creative initial funding ideas.

4. Partner with Lifesong for Orphans to administer the Fund.

WHAT THE ORGANIZATION PARTNER DOES:

Lifesong for Orphans will administer, manage, and facilitate the Adoption Fund on behalf of each church — at no cost to the church, fund or families! We are prepared to provide solutions to these most common barriers:
