What It’s Like to be a Foster Parent

By Jedd Medefind on April 20, 2012

Our friends at FosterPodcast.org recently released a simple video they titled “What It’s Like to Be a Foster Parent.”  It’s just four minutes of Tim, a foster-to-adopt parent, sitting on the floor and speaking frankly about what the journey looked like for him and his family.  And though it may not win an Oscar, it’s just the kind of straightforward, clear-eyed talk we need in the Christian orphan care movement:  neither glossing over the difficulty, nor fixating on the challenges.  Rather, it offers an honest, real-world glimpse of the intertwined challenge and beauty of loving children who’ve come from difficult places.  As Tim puts it, “Fostering parenting has been one of the toughest things in our lives.  It’s also been one of the most rewarding.”
