This infographic summarizes findings from a global study of 962 adults with lived experience in alternative care across more than 20 countries. The research explores why children enter care and what most affects their transition into adulthood. Three main themes emerged: (a) relationships and social networks, showing the importance of stable, supportive relationships and psychosocial services; (b) well-being and resilience, highlighting how mental health challenges affect daily functioning while supportive environments encourage growth; and (c) resources and opportunities, emphasizing the role of education, financial stability and continued support beyond age 18. The infographic also shows how the lack of these supports can lead to long-term challenges such as isolation, financial hardship and unmet mental health needs. Overall, the findings stress the value of long-term, relationship-centered support for improving outcomes for care-experienced young people.
