Many of us march into advocacy for children with our nearly fanatical commitment, our sleep deprivation, and our strategic plan. Still, when it comes down to it, we, by ourselves, are no match for the brokenness we'll encounter. If you want to see more than enough for children and families happen in your community, you're going to need some REAL power. And seeing that power starts with prayer.
We all want to see more than enough for children and families before, during, and beyond foster care in our communities–but getting there is going to require things that go way beyond what we ever could orchestrate ourselves. At its core, a foster care movement in any community is a spiritual movement, and no meaningful spiritual movement in history has started apart from prayer. That is always where spiritual movements start. As D. L. Moody once said, “Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure.”
In this episode, Jason talks with Ryan Skoog and Peter Greer, two of the authors of the book Lead with Prayer. Together, they unpack some of the essential prayer practices of Christian leaders around the globe and explore the transformative shift from being “a leader who happens to pray” to becoming a “praying leader”.
We then hear from five foster care leaders, Heidi White, Shelly Radic, Rhonda Littleton, Janelle Shelton, and Andrew Holmes about how they prioritize prayer in their lives, work, and leadership, as they serve children and families all across the country.
