Today we’re diving into something that sits right at the heart of what we’re all about — relationships. Not just the relationships we form with children and families who need someone to walk with them for the long haul, but also the connections we build with one another: across organizations, departments, churches, and communities.
As believers, we know this isn’t just a nice idea. We’re uniquely called and equipped to offer the kind of relationships that go the distance — the kind that reflect the love and faithfulness of Jesus, even when things get messy.
We’ll hear today from Amber Knowles with The Riverside Project in Houston, who shares what it looks like to build both kinds of relationships — the ones that offer real support to families in crisis, and the ones that knit together leaders and communities who might otherwise stay in their own lanes.
We then close the episode with Stephanie Ellison, the Associate Director of the Beltway Foster Adoption Ministry in Texas, and a former foster youth who experienced unimaginably hard things as she was growing up. She shares about the key relationships throughout that journey that began in childhood and ultimately provided connection and support for her and her children in adulthood. (Note: Her story is powerful, but it contains some sensitive themes that may not be ideal for younger listeners.)

Mentioned in the Episode: The Riverside Project Podcast + YouTube
You can find The Riverside Project Podcast on YouTube or at The Riverside Project webpage. We encourage you to also check out their “As One” video series. On any given day, thousands of Houston’s children are in foster care. Many more are at risk of entering foster care due to abuse, neglect, and/or family instability. On behalf of these children and their families, The Riverside Project brings together various organizations and individuals, working AS ONE to see children heal and families thrive. The stories that result are beautiful.
