If you’ve spent any time around foster care, you already know that you cannot engage with foster care without encountering obstacles. And honestly . . .  the word 'obstacle' doesn't feel strong enough. Early adversity can bring real pain, real loss, and real trauma. But scripture and research have a lot to teach us about resilience, healing, and what it really takes to overcome.

Today, we’re not offering easy answers or clichés. This is not a “everything happens for a reason” conversation. Instead, we’re naming how hard 'obstacles' can be — and asking an important question: What actually helps children who’ve experienced hard things get back up and keep going?

To explore that, we’re joined by two people who understand resilience.  First we talk to researcher and author, Dr. Nicole Wilke, Director of the Center on Applied Research for Vulnerable Children and Families at CAFO. Then we hear from Nick Tucker, a former foster youth who literally walked across the country, inviting people to think differently about adversity, self-awareness, and the role of community.
