A Conversation with Bishop W.C. Martin: The community that inspired Sound of Hope

Inspired by the incredible true story, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot follows Donna and Reverend Martin as they ignite a movement of compassion in their small East Texas church to care for children who needed foster or adoptive families, leading the charge to prove that faith, community and perseverance have the power to change the lives of vulnerable children.

This movie provides an opportunity to engage your community in conversations about foster care. Wherever people are in their understanding of foster care currently, the goal is to use this movie as a springboard toward a deeper understanding and invite them to take a specific, realistic next step in caring for children and families.

Bishop W.C. Martin has served as the lead pastor of Bennett Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Possum Trot, Texas, since 1985. Alongside his wife, Donna, he has dedicated more than three decades to ministry and community transformation. Together they have six children—four through adoption—and six grandchildren. Their remarkable adoption story, which began in 1997, inspired the feature film Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot. A nationally recognized advocate for adoption and foster care, Bishop Martin has been featured on numerous radio and television programs and is a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop leader on topics of faith, family, and community building.
